——今回の展示会についてお聞かせください。
この展示会では、「コウチャン・パシャ」と「プリンセスズーミン」というキャラクターを中心にしたストーリー性のある作品を展示します。夢とロマンにあふれた物語を表現し、観る人に楽しんでもらいたいと考えています。
——なぜ絵を描くようになったのでしょうか？
私はもともと建築家として長年働いていました。鹿島建設での経験を経て、エジプトでのプロジェクトにも携わりました。しかし、70歳になったとき、自分の人生を振り返り、「本当にやりたかったことは何か」と考えました。絵を描くときが一番心穏やかで、自分自身でいられると気付いたのです。建築とは異なり、絵は完全に自分の世界を表現できる自由な手段です。
——「コウチャン・パシャ」と「プリンセスズーミン」の誕生について教えてください。
息子夫妻がプレゼントしてくれたぬいぐるみがきっかけでした。そのぬいぐるみを見た瞬間、彼らをモデルにしたキャラクターを描きたくなりました。そこで、王国のストーリーを考え、「キングパパリン（私）」と「ミーゴージャス（妃）」、そして「コウチャンパシャ（息子）」と「プリンセスズーミン（息子の妻）」の世界を作り上げました。このキャラクターたちが様々な場所を旅し、冒険する物語を絵の中に描いています。今回はこの世界観をメインにした展示を行います。
——絵を通じて伝えたいことは何ですか？
愛と友情です。友情から生まれる助け合いや、親や子供、友人への愛が人生を豊かにします。そして、愛が希望を生み、希望が夢へとつながる。このサイクルを大切にしてほしいと願っています。
また、日本では芸術を仕事にすることが難しく、画家として生計を立てることができる人はごくわずかです。しかし、子供たちが絵を描く環境を整えることができれば、未来の画家が育つかもしれません。私は、子供たちが自由に創作できる場を提供することが大切だと考えています。
——展示会後の展望はありますか？
日本だけでなく、モロッコでもアートプロジェクトを展開できないか考えています。芸術活動を通じた社会貢献や子供たちへの教育的な影響を広げていきたいですね。

"The World of Kochan-Pacha and Princess Zoomin"
——Could you tell us about this exhibition?
In this exhibition, I will be showcasing works centered around the characters "Kochan-Bacha" and "Princess Zoomin." Through these paintings, I want to express a story filled with dreams and romance, hoping that viewers will enjoy immersing themselves in this world.
——What led you to start painting?
I originally worked as an architect for many years. After gaining experience at Kajima Corporation, I was also involved in projects in Egypt. However, when I turned 70, I reflected on my life and asked myself, "What is it that I truly wanted to do?" I realized that painting was when I felt the most at peace and the most like myself. Unlike architecture, painting is a completely free means of expressing my own world without limitations.
——How did "Kochan-Pacha" and "Princess Zoomin" come to life?
It all started with a stuffed toy that my son and his wife gave me as a present. The moment I saw it, I was inspired to create characters based on it. That led me to develop the story of a kingdom, featuring "King Paparin (myself)," "Mii Gorgeous (the queen)," "Kou-chan Pasha (my son)," and "Princess Zoomin (my son's wife)." These characters travel to different places, embarking on various adventures, which I depict in my paintings. This time, the exhibition will mainly focus on this unique world.
——What message do you want to convey through your paintings?
Love and friendship. Acts of kindness born from friendship, and the love shared between parents, children, and friends enrich our lives. Love creates hope, and hope leads to dreams. I want people to cherish this cycle. In Japan, making a living as an artist is extremely difficult, and only a handful of painters can support themselves through art. However, if we can create an environment where children can freely draw and express themselves, we might be able to nurture the next generation of artists. I believe it is crucial to provide spaces where children can engage in creative activities without restrictions.
——Do you have any future plans after this exhibition?
I'm considering expanding art projects not only in Japan but also in Morocco. I would like to explore ways to contribute to society through artistic activities and have a positive educational impact on children.
——Finally, do you have a message for the readers?
I hope this exhibition will not just be a place to view paintings but an opportunity for visitors to experience a story. I would love for each person to interpret the narrative in their own way and take something meaningful from it. Tetsuo Nunomura (Uncle Tetsuo) – Profile
Born in 1949 in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, Tetsuo Nunomura built a distinguished career as an architect, working on projects both in Japan and internationally. After his tenure at Kajima Corporation, he spent many years living in Cairo, Egypt, where he was deeply involved in international architectural consulting projects.
Despite his professional focus on architecture, he always nurtured a passion for art. In 2020, at the age of 70, inspired by his lifelong partner, his wife Utako, he fully embraced painting as a form of artistic expression.
Why He Paints
In his architectural work, Nunomura had to operate within predefined specifications and conditions. However, painting allows him to create freely, without constraints. For him, painting is the time when he feels most like himself—a moment of tranquility and personal liberation.
Artistic Style & Themes
Tetsuo’s works depict a world of dreams and romance, often presented in the form of fantastical stories. Among his most notable creations are the fantasy series featuring Kochan-Pacha and Princess Zoomin.
